EDIT* I decided to enter this into the Pumpkoff contest hosted by :iconlochi: and :iconvashperado:. I have no chance, but that's okay, haha. All in good fun.

I've never done anything with a pumpkin beyond carving out a couple eyes, a nose, and a mouth. For a long time I thought that's all people did with pumpkins. Boy was I wrong there.

Food network likes to run pumpkin carving contests on tv during October and so I got my first taste of what a person could really do with a pumpkin from watching one of those shows a while back. I didn't work up the nerve to actually try something like that until now though. It all started with a hastily drawn sketch that I taped onto the pumpkin, and I love dragons, so that's what it had to be, :).

This took me at least 9 hours to do. I wasn't keeping track, but I started around noon yesterday and worked on it for most of the day, until around 11 p.m. As a first attempt I'm pretty happy that it came out as well as it did. If I could've found my mom's scrimshaw knife it might have been better, but alas, I had only my leatherman and the blade was a little too long so I kept skimming off parts of the outside shell that I didn't want to, argghhh.

thats wicked! my mom would love that, shes really into dragons. Its very clean and lights up well. Did you hand draw this?
